Concealer Hacks + Battle of Drugstore Concealers [Maybelline, LA Girl,Wet N Wild]

3:25:00 AM

Despite my skin imperfections, I never liked to use concealers because I find them sticky and time-consuming. In line with this, I opted to use medium coverage foundations to even out my skin and at the same time, to work as a concealer for my blemishes. Years passed, I finally decided to use concealer when new tricks became popular apart from concealing your blemishes.

One of my favorite hacks is where you can use a concealer to create an illusion that your face is lifted by drawing a triangle with the base under your eye and the point toward your cheek. I also drew a line on my forehead, bridge of my nose, cupid's bow and chin to lift them as well. I used a damped beauty blender to blend for a seamless finish.

I used Maybelline Fit Me concealer in Light

This is how it looks after blending. See the difference? Make sure you use 1 or 2 shades lighter to accentuate the highlight points. Afterwards, use a loose translucent powder to set. My current favorite powder is the Nichido Final Powder in Creamy Glow

Other concealer hacks you can try:

1. Use your concealer as an eyelid primer to avoid your eyeshadows from falling out and creasing. It actually works the same like an actual eyeshadow primer. It also helps to hide away the veins on your eyelids before applying your eyeshadows.

2. Apply a concealer one shade lighter than your skin tone above and below your brows for a more appealing look. Make sure to blend it after for a natural finish.

3. Use concealer to sharpen your cat-eye with an angled brush.

4. Prevent your lipstick from bleeding by lining the outside of your lips using a lip brush and a bit of a concealer.

5. Green concealers are for correcting red spots and blemishes. Purple concealer is used to eliminate unwanted yellow undertones. Pink/peachy concealer to cover up your dark undereye circles. Yellow-toned concealers used to even out your skin tone.

I guess that it's for now. Actually, there are still more hacks you can try but I find these few very effective for me and for my clients. Anyhow, let us move on to the product arena!

These concealers are with me for quite a long time. Since I started doing someone's makeup, I used these concealers depend on what is needed. Aside from these, I also have the Graftobian HD Glamour Creme Palette in Light in case I needed more coverage.

Wet N Wild Coverall Liquid Concealer Wand in Light (169.50php/3.6usd from Luxola)

I primary used it as an eyelid primer because it sets as matte finish. It says that it is a liquid concealer but it has more on a rich creamy consistency. It has a good coverage and great to conceal minor blemishes. My only gripe is that it accentuates my dry patches if I didn't apply a moisturizer beforehand. Other than that, it's a pretty decent drugstore concealer and budget-friendly too! It has 4 shades available: Fair, Beige, Light, and Medium.

Maybelline Fit Me! Concealer in Light (380php/8usd from YMSP)

Beauty gurus say it is the perfect dupe for the Nars Radiant Creamy Concealer (29usd). It describes as fresh, breathable and natural which is definitely true. It is one of my favorites to use on my undereye and to my highlight points. Easy to blend with fingers and doesn't crease. This works perfectly with Nichido Powder Finish in Creamy Glow. Sadly, this concealer is not available locally as of this typing.

Maybelline Age Rewind Eraser Dark Circles Treatment Concealer in Light Pale (499php/10.6usd from YMSP)

May I introduce my HG (Holy Grail) concealer. It is a super-concentrated treatment that has a micro-corrector that instantly erase dark circle and fine lines. Haloxyl reduces the look of puffiness and shadows while fading the appearance of under eye circles. It has 6 shades available: Brightener, Fair, Honey, Light, Medium, and Neutralizer. It comes with a sponge applicator where you can apply directly to your undereye which I personally love. On the contrary, I won't recommended the applicator to be used on your client's face for hygienic reasons. Might as well remove the sponge applicator and use a foundation or concealer brush to apply. This concealer is very creamy, blendable and can totally create a radiant look after. It doesn't crease too! It is more expensive compared to Fit Me! concealer but believe me, it's totally worth it. Same goes with the Fit Me! concealer, this is also not available locally.

LA Girl Pro.Conceal High Definition Concealer in Green Corrector, Pure Beige and Creamy Beige (around 230php in LA Girl stalls / 160-180php online)

If you are looking for a full-coverage concealer at a pocket-friendly price, this is what you're looking for. It has a thick yet lightweight texture that covers most of your blemishes. No wonder, this concealer is one of the most popular drugstore concealers these days. Of course, I won't let it pass without trying it myself and admittedly, I was pretty impressed on how it performs. The green corrector is very useful to minimize the redness and stubborn blemishes. My only gripe is the brush applicator which I find unhygienic same case with the Maybelline Age Rewind concealer. It creases sometimes but not noticeable, depends on the weather, I guess. This concealer has a wide variety of shades from correctors to darker shades that you can also use for wet contouring.

All in all, these are good choices for a budget-friendly concealer from the drugstores. As mentioned, some of them are available locally while others can be purchased online.

In this battle, the first place goes to Maybelline Age Rewind Eraser Dark Circle Treatment Concealer, next is Maybelline Fit Me! Concealer followed by LA Girl Pro Conceal and the last place goes to Wet N Wild Coverall Liquid Concealer Wand. Whew!

Hope you had fun reading this! Please share with me your favorite drugstore concealer in the comment box  below. I would love to try them!
