From Singlehood to Motherhood - A Realization

If you know me personally, you would know what kind of life I've been to before I had my own family. I'm a free-spirit individual who loves to travel everywhere. I'm also one of those people who finds adventure in the mountains. If not hiking, I'm in somewhere else to explore new places.  I used to live with my brother and his family since we are orphans btw. I used to shop for myself almost every payday. Everything is about me back then. Not until we found out I'm pregnant.

From that moment, everything has changed. Well, just a bit hehehe. Hubby (bf that time) and I could still go on a date, dine in a restaurant and watching movies. Sometimes we even catch the last full show. But of course, our monthly check up with our OB-Gyne is always in our checklist. Gradually our attention comes to our unborn child, we started collecting his basic needs. And come January 2015, he came out to see the world.

I thought I could pull this "mommy thing" effortlessly. And I thought right from the moment I gave birth, I was READY. The pain of my stitch, the sore of my nipples and those sleepless night, everything came all over me and felt sudden frustration and I bursts into tears. It was Post Partum Depression as what they called it. Never thought I would experience it because I'm a positive person. Its pretty normal though, so don't worry if you have experienced it too.

I used to be a sleepy head back then. During our first night with Cloud, I did not sleep because I want to see if he's still breathing. Call me paranoid, but when you become a mom, you will think the worst possible that might happened. We did co-sleep so I can easily check on him from time to time. I still nurse him during wee hours but thankfully I didn't have a hard time getting him back to sleep. Breastfeeding and co-sleeping are helping us both to get a good night sleep.

I also realized that once you became a mom, you will devote everything for your family. Your time, effort, love, moral support name it. Mom will do everything for her family. I always rejects all the invites (from my officemates) that go beyond my working hours and if only I could fly my way home I will do it just to arrive as early as possible. All I want is to hug my little one after a long day of work.

My patience has been tested as well. Okay, I admit, I'm a short-tempered person but Cloud and hubby taught me not to. Thanks to my boys. :)

No more long showers and my beauty regimen was cut into half. I even put my hair in a bun without brushing it! Now that Cloud is 9 months old, he cries everytime he sees me until I carry him. So imagine a wild crying baby on the other side of the door while taking a shower and waiting for me to finish my "me-time". From 30 to 45minutes bath time, I could now finish for only 15 minutes hehehe.

I'm sure new moms out there can relate to everything I wrote down. But don't get me wrong, despite of these changes, I embraced wholeheartedly the fact that I am now a MOTHER. Difficult it may seem but I love every second of it. <3
Let me introduce to you my family. :)
Daddy E, Cloud and Me; wacky naman para maiba :)
What are the changes you embraced when you became a mom?
I would love to know them. :)

Thank you for reading beauties!

Much Love,

Mommy Mhaan

  1. What beauty regimen????HAHAHAHA...I'm a certified manang. But I do understand what you mean by staying up all night to check if the baby is still breathing. I'm still like that with my kids sometimes, and youngest is already 4.

What changed? I used to be fearless. Now I do everything with extreme caution (yes, let's put together a paranoid moms club).

  2. correct na correct ka jan sis! aside from letting go of sleep, i embraced walking in public with naked face! i skipped foundation kasi with this country's humidity, magkakafoundation din si baby sa face pagnagdikit kame + the lipstick will stain not only baby's face but mittens tas isusubo niya. :P

  3. "No more long showers and my beauty regimen was cut into half. " I can't spend a long time in the mall when I'm with kids. When they get cranky, it's time to go. =)

Having decided to make a complete new bathroom installation you may forget about annoying rusty bath, boring faded interior, cracked floor and wall tiles. It means to leave out always leaking mixer taps, painful rusty stains caused by defective sanitaryware, which made you tired a lot. It means to forget about inconvenient bathroom shelves, which occupy the better part of the space but have no practical use.

  6. Well motherhood turned me to a supermom 😉. All mom's are super if you ask me. Just imagine all the selfish giving and multi-tasking.

  7. I was never really motherly growing up. In fact, I didn't enjoy taking care of kids. When I became a mom, so many things changed. I quit my vices. I started spending more time at home. I learned to cook, to drive, to do laundry, to clean. The list goes on. I never used to believe in maternal instinct until mine actually kicked in haha.

  8. When I became a mom, I had to be more responsible. No more drinking spree, no more sleepovers; I had to start saving and do the laundry! But all those are sure worth it.

  11. Interestingly, even as a yaya-less single mum, I can afford to take long showers if I wanted to! Siguro it's because my son can already entertain himself. And I agree with the meme: my favourite hours of the day are those when my son is sleeping haha
